Mauricio Pochettino aims brutal dig at Tottenham as Chelsea survive in Carabao Cup

Chelsea Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino has seemingly mocked his former club, Tottenham Hotspur, after they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the second round.

Spurs were the biggest casualties of the round after Fulham knocked them out on post-match penalties on Tuesday night.

Both Chelsea and Spurs were made to start their Carabao Cup journey after finishing 8th and 12th last season. Pochettino's side beat a resilient AFC Wimbledon 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday to make it through.

The home side fell behind in the 19th minute after Robert Sanchez committed a foul in the area. James Tilley stepped up to score the resultant penalty and give his side a shocking lead against the two-time European champions.

Noni Madueke restored parity for Chelsea just before half-time by winning and converting a penalty of his own. Marquee January signing Enzo Fernandez then came off the bench to capitalise on a Wimbledon defensive mix-up to score Chelsea's winner and his first goal for the club.

What did Pochettino presumably say about Spurs?

Despite the win, Chelsea's performance was way off the expected standards of a team that has spent handsomely in the transfer market. Their Argentine boss was, however, happy with the win, considering 'other' clubs did not make it through.

"In the end, we won the game. We shouldn't talk in a negative way. Many Premier League teams are out of the competition," as quoted by Standard Sports' Nizaar Kinsella.

Fans think the message was aimed at Spurs, whose new boss, Ange Postecoglou, will now have to look for another cup to end the club's trophy drought, which stretches back to 2008.

Chelsea will play Brighton in the next round.
