Manchester City defeated Bournemouth 2-1 on Wednesday night to celebrate overturning their two-year European ban.

City who won the battle against the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on Sunday are now eligible to take part in next season's Champions League.

A superb freekick from David Silva opened the show in the sixth minute while Gabriel Jesus also got on the scoresheet to make it two for the home side.

Although Bournemouth pulled one back via David Brooks in the 88th minute, it was not enough as the lost all three points, pushing them three points from safety.

Already assured of second place in the Premier League, City’s priorities are Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal and their Champions League last 16, second-leg clash with Real Madrid next month.

Having lost the Premier League title to Liverpool, City seem determined to add more trophies to the League Cup they won earlier this season.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho's Tottenham boosted their European qualification chances after defeating Newcastle 3-1.

Harry Kane who had gone three games without a goal scored the 200th and 201st club goals of his career.

The England captain headed home twice as Jose Mourinho celebrated his first Premier League victory at St James’ Park.

Jose's men now lie seventh on the log with 55 points; one behind Wolves in sixth and one above Sheffield United who face Leicester City tomorrow.
