Lookman eyes Champions League football with Atalanta

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman is eyeing UEFA Champions League qualification with his side following their victory over Empoli in the Serie A.

Gian Piero Gasperini side secured a 2-0 win at the Gewiis Stadium courtesy of goals from Mario Pasalic and Ademola Lookman.

The win boosted their chances of qualifying for the prestigious European club competition as they currently sit 6th on the Serie A league log.

La Dea are only two points adrift of Roma in 5th place with four matches left to play.

Five Serie A teams will qualify for the UCL next season which means Atalanta must finish above AS Roma to feature in the Champions League next season.

Speaking in a post-match reaction, Lookman highlighted the importance of the victory in their bid to secure Champions League qualification.

“This victory (against Empoli) is very important because we have to reach the Champions League. We also have commitments in the Italian Cup and the Europa League, winning today was important,” Lookman said as per Napoli Magazine.

“Roma are a strong team but so are we. We know that every match is difficult, but we are ready to try to win them all.”

The former Leicester City forward has netted 11 goals and 7 assists for Atalanta this season across all competitions.
