Lionel Messi: Lovely footage shows how Ballon d’Or winner asked wife to join him on stage

Apart from his insane football talent, Lionel Messi has always stood out for his humility in press conferences and games.

Louis Van Gaal and Wout Weghorst will beg to differ, but more often than not, we usually see a Messi who doesn't really want the spotlight on him but can do nothing to avoid it.

After winning eight Ballon d'Ors, you would think that he might jump at the opportunity to say he is the best ever. But he will still go for the noble line of, 'I don't consider myself the best, but the fact that you say it is an honour.'

So humble is he that despite being the X-factor in Argentina's World Cup triumph, he still wanted to share the glory with his teammates and technical staff and, well, you know, his family.

Messi's love story with Antonella Roccuzzo is one of love at first sight. It is also one of Roccuzzo making the right decisions cause, let's face it: with all the problems Messi had growing up, the stunted growth and everything, not many would have expected he would be who he is today.

I guess we all need the life compass and discernment Roccuzzo has in our own lives. Imagine being called the GOAT's wife.

It has been a union built on love, with three boys coming along the way as Messi continued to elevate his game. So when David Beckham presented him with his eighth Ballon d'Or title at the Théâtre du Châtelet on October 30, he felt something was missing.

Roccuzzo had already beckoned her sons to join their father on stage. Donned in cute black suits and white shoes to match, the youngins trooped to the stage amidst the standing ovation in the hall.

After hugging his boys, the former Barcelona captain realised that the love of his life, the apple of his eye and all those sweet nothings they use, had remained in her seat.

"Okay, boys. It's nice you came here, but I knew your mother first, huh?"
