Kevin Prince Boateng explains why he 'lied' that Messi was the GOAT during his time at Barcelona

Former Ghana midfielder, Kevin-Prince Boateng has confessed that he lied that Lionel Messi was the best player in the world just to wear the Barcelona jersey.

Boateng played alongside the Inter Miami star during his loan spell at Barcelona in the 2018/19 season.

The ex-AC Milan star famously declared the Argentina World Cup winner as the best player he ever played with following his first training with the Catalan giants.

However, Boateng in an interview with FIVE UK podcast disclosed that he was compelled to say Messi was the best player.

"They say who is the best player in the world, you say Messi," he said, drawing a hilarious reaction from Rio Ferdinand and the rest of the crew.

"This is one of the biggest lie because I usually say the truth but this one I had to lie because I wanted to put on the shirt for one time at Camp Nou," he added.

Boateng played with some of the greatest footballers in the world, including Ronaldinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at AC Milan.

The Germany-born Ghanaian recently announced his retirement from the sport, as reported by footballghana.com.
