Kano Pillars captain Ali reveals why he has banned his children from playing football

Kano Pillars' captain Rabiu Ali has disclosed that he has banned his children from playing football even if they exhibit signs of becoming professional footballers.

Ali, who initiated his football journey during his primary school days in Fagge, Kano, emphasized that his children's only reason for playing the sport would be within the school setting.

"While we faced challenges from our parents during our time, I have made the decision that my children won't play football. Even within my household, I don't allow it," stated Ali in an interview with PUNCH Sports Extra.

Despite boasting nearly two decades of activity in the Nigeria Premier Football League, Ali prioritizes his children's education over a potential football career. He emphasized that if his child decides to pursue football, he would offer support, but completing education would be a prerequisite.

"You don't follow the kids to school or the playground. If my child chooses to play, I will support him because that's his choice. However, he has to complete schooling before considering football," he asserted.

Ali also discussed his post-retirement plans, expressing a desire to distance himself from football and concentrate on his business and family.

"I won't be considering coaching as a career. I am a businessman, and I'd prefer to return to my business so that I can spend more time with my family. Unlike now, where you're not always there, every day you're not always around, and the children keep growing without you being there for them," he explained.

Having played in the NPFL for approximately 16 years, Ali has achieved notable success, clinching three consecutive titles with Pillars in 2012, 2013, and 2014.

Despite his extensive career, he remains active in the current season, contributing with one goal as Kano Pillars currently hold the fourth position in the league table with 19 points.
