President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu has appointed Senator John Owan Enoh as the new Sports Minister for the West African nation.

The allocation of portfolios to all appointed ministers, who were also screened by the Senate, was confirmed on August 16.

Enoh became the 36th person to supervise Nigerian sports and its development since Chief Joseph Modupe Johnson (JMJ) in 1960.

Enoh's political career

The new minister represented the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State in the 8th assembly that ran from 2015 to 2019.

Before then, he was a House of Representatives for Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency between 2003 and 2015.

ThisDay reports that the 57-year-old was a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) until May 2017, when he decamped to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

Enoh lost the Cross River governorship election to Ben Ayade.

Enoh's personal activities

The new sports minister loves agriculture as he reportedly owns numerous farms where he conducts arable farming and livestock production, Punch reports.

It was gathered that he also owns about 150 hectares of planted palms in his native Agbokim Waterfalls.

He loves the out-grower farming scheme, a corporate social responsibility scheme that empowers local small-scale farmers with arable and livestock to grow on their farms and later provides them with a market to sell these products.
