Napoli have paid tribute to late Ghanaian footballer, Christian Atsu, during their pre-season game against Turkish side Hatayspor.

The Italian champions hosted Hatayspor, the club which was most affected by the devastating earthquake in Turkey earlier this year, in a friendly encounter in Naples.

Hatayspor lost winger Atsu and Technical Director Taner Savut, whose bodies were recovered weeks after the disaster.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake claimed over 40,000 lives in Turkey and Syria, and before Saturday's game, the Italian outfit remembered the victims of the earthquake.

In honour of Atsu and Savut, Napoli presented customised jerseys to Hatayspor.

"We would like to thank the Napoli team, who hosted us in Italy, for their interest and closeness," wrote the club on Twitter.
Atsu scored the winner in Hatayspor's game against Kasimpasa hours before disaster struck on February 6. The former Black Stars player was missing for 12 days, before his lifeless body was found under the rubble of a collapsed building, as reported by the BBC.

He was buried in his hometown of Ada in Ghana's capital Accra on March 17. 2023.
