Manchester United's newly acquired midfielder Mason Mount has opened up on why he joined the club from Chelsea.

The 24-year-old joined the Red Devils on a four-year contract with an option to extend in a deal worth £60 million.

The move was officially announced by Manchester United on Wednesday, July 5, bringing to an end an 18-year stay at Chelsea for the England international.

Mount joined the Blues Academy at the age of six. He made 195 appearances for the first team winning the UEFA Champions League with the club in 2021.

Speaking in an interview with the club's official website, Mount disclosed that it was a difficult decision to leave his boyhood club to join their Premier League rivals.

He added that he can't wait to work with Erik Ten Haag.

“I’m very excited to work under Erik ten Hag.

“It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Man Utd will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career.

“I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies,” Mount said.

Mount has become the latest player to leave Stamford Bridge after the likes of Ngolo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Matteo Kovacic, Kai Havertz among others.
