The Iranian Football Federation is currently in talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over a potential international friendly ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Tehran Times reports that the FFIRI is making plans for two friendlies in March, against Costa Rica and Nigeria.
For Iran, a match against the Super Eagles will give the technical team an idea of what to expect when they face African opponents, including Egypt, in the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The other teams Iran will face in Group G are Belgium and New Zealand.
For Nigeria, any international friendly engagement remains subject to the outcome of FIFA’s impending ruling on the country’s eligibility protest against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The NFF is challenging the eligibility of at least six DR Congo players who featured in the African play-off final last November.
The Super Eagles lost 4-3 in the shootout to the Leopards after 120 minutes of football ended in a 1-1 draw.
