India 2022: Flamingos exploit thrills Ajakaye

Nigeria's U-17 women's team striker, Opeyemi Ajakaye has expressed her excitement after the Flamingos finished as 2nd runners-up at the 2022 U-17 Women's World Cup in India.

Ajakare, who was voted player of the match in the third-place playoff against Germany on Sunday, October 30 expressed her gratitude to Nigerians for their support.

The young attacker was also thrilled with her own performance in the tournament which saw her win three Player of the Match awards.

“I’m so happy to finally get my goal in the tournament, yes I won player if the match three times, but I don’t know if it’s a consolation for the gold.”

“But I’m grateful for the support from Nigerians, they helped us, encourage us and we are happy to deliver,” she said.

The Flamingos wrapped up their World Cup campaign with a 3-2 victory on penalty shootouts against Germany at the PY Patil Stadium on Sunday to secure a bronze medal.

The team is scheduled to arrive in the country on Tuesday, November 1(today).
