Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has touted former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew as a potential president for the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Mikel Obi, who is currently in Accra, Ghana with his Obi One Podcast, believes Ayew has the personality to take Ghana football to the next level.

The former Chelsea midfielder vowed to embark on a personal campaign to ensure that the former Ghana captain is elected as the GFA president.

"I am going to campaign for Andre Ayew to become GFA president," Mikel Obi stated on his podcast show.

However, Ayew, who is currently a free agent after spending the 2025/26 season with Dutch side NAC Breda, disclosed that contesting for the FA presidency is not currently a priority.

Despite calls for his inclusion, the 36-year-old was left out of Ghana's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ayew has won 120 caps with the Black Stars of Ghana, registering 24 goals for the West African giants.
