I was sad to leave — Super Eagles star explains reason for leaving former club

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon discussed his exit from Nantes ahead of Paris vs Nantes.

Ahead of the clash against Nantes this weekend, Super Eagles winger Moses Simon recently revealed that he was sad to leave his former club, having developed a strong bond with the fans of the club.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Thursday, the Nigeria international spoke about his former club and how he was prepared to retire there.

"I was a little sad to leave; I could have stayed in Nantes for 20 years," he said, per Parisien. "I had a strong bond with the supporters. I kept the Nantes jersey in my heart. I still have it at home."

However, he then provided some insights as to why he made the move, citing Paris FC’s superior ambitions to Nantes.

"There's also ambition at Nantes, but here, we feel more of a desire to do something. I'm happy to be back with my friends and to be able to talk with them tomorrow. But what I want above all is to win. It's an important match for me and the club."

Moses Simon left Nantes in the summer, joining newly promoted Paris FC on a three-year deal until 30 June 2028 for a reported fee of €7m.

The move closed a six-season chapter in Nantes colours that began with a loan in August 2019 and became permanent in June 2020.

At Nantes, Simon was a star winger. Across his time there, he made around 177 Ligue 1 appearances, 201 total appearances in all competitions, and scored 37 league goals and 42 assists.

He also achieved tangible success in the form of silverware, winning the Coupe de France during the 2021/22 season.
