Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen believes he can surpass George Weah's record as the African player with the most Serie A goals.

With 45 Serie A goals in three seasons, the 24-year-old Super Eagles striker is a goal away from equalling the record set by the former footballer-turned-president.

Osimhen is enjoying his best campaign at Napoli with 21 Serie A goals this season.

The 1995 Ballon d’Or winner, Weah netted 46 goals in 114 appearances for AC Milan, helping the Rossoneri to two Serie A titles in five seasons.

He also won the African Player of the Year at AC Milan.

Despite being one goal shy of smashing the record set by the former Paris Saint-Germain star, Osimhen believes the current President of Liberia still remains one of the greatest African players to have featured in the Italian topflight.

“He (George Weah) has to be considered one of the greatest African strikers that graced Serie A. I want to continue to do my best and continue to do well for myself and for my team, Osimhen told Moor Sportz.

“At the end of the season, I think I stand a chance to surpass him or meet the record. I didn’t have the opportunity of watching him play, and I have never met him.” he continued.

Osimhen is currently the leading top scorer in Serie this season with 21 goals in 23 appearances.

The ex-Lille forward is close to becoming the first African player to win the Paolo Rossi Award given to the top scorer in Serie A.
