Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has insisted that he remains the most decorated Nigerian player of all time.

The ex-Super Eagles captain disclosed this in a podcast session with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The 36-year-old who retired from professional football last year featured for Lyn, Chelsea, Middlesbrough, Stoke City, among other clubs.

At Chelsea, the former Nigerian international won every domestic trophy together with the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League.

At the international level, Mikel was part of the Stephen Keshi-led side that last won the AFCON in 2013.

Mikel while hailing Osimhen on finishing 8th in the latest Ballon d'Or ranking added that the 24-year-old needs to match up with his record.

"I am still the most successful and decorated football player in Nigeria," he said.

"But he [Victor Osimhen] got an award that I never got. He was ranked number 8 in the world by Ballon d’Or. That’s absolutely amazing. I must say congratulations.

"The season you had, it was fantastic and I never got to that stage. You’ve raised the bar so high."
