'I lost an African brother' - Osimhen on Christian Atsu's tragic death

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has offered his condolences to the family of the late Christian Atsu who lost his life in the devastating earthquake that hit Syria and Southern Turkey last month.

Atsu, 31, who was plying his trade in the Turkish Super Lig died tragically after his lifeless body was discovered under rubble 12 days aftermath the disaster.

His body was later flown to Ghana for a state burial which will hold on March 17 as confirmed by his family.

Speaking on the tragic event, the Super Eagles striker expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Ghanaian star describing him as an African brother.

Osimhen added that he took part in a campaign to raise funds by selling jerseys to help victims of the 7.8 magnitude quake.

“The earthquakes in Turkey? I don’t know how much my jersey was sold for; even my teammates like Bartosz Bereszynski and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sold their jerseys,” Osimhen told DHA, as per Tutto Napoli.

“Eljif Elmas organized this campaign and of course, we supported it. My condolences to those who lost their lives in the earthquakes. I also lost an African brother in these earthquakes, Christian Atsu from Ghana.”

Christian Atsu featured for clubs like Porto, Everton, Malaga Newcastle United among other clubs in Europe.

Atsu was adjudged the best player of the 2015 Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea.

He won 65 caps for the Black Stars scoring 10 goals.
