Al-Ittihad forward George Ilenikhena has disclosed that he was confident about scoring on his debut for the Super Eagles.

The 20-year-old, who was handed his first call-up during this international break, hit the ground running in his first game, justifying his inclusion in the team.

The former AS Monaco striker equalized for Nigeria on the stroke of halftime after Madagascar had taken a surprise lead at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Moses Usor, another debutant, came off the bench to score the winner for Eric Chelle's side in the second half.

Speaking in a chat with OwnGoalNigeria after the game, Ilenikhena stated that the win was the most important thing for the team.

"I knew I would score, but it wasn't a thing I was going to put pressure on myself. The most important thing is the win for the team, and we got it, ahead of the next game in Bissau against Guinea-Bissau," he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

Ilenikhena emphasized the importance of looking ahead to the team's next game against Guinea-Bissau.

"It's a game between the best two teams in the group, so we can't underrate them," he said.

"The mindset will be the same as it was in the first game. Play our game and hopefully get a win to keep the momentum going."
