Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq was on target again as Real Sociedad played a 1-1 draw with Osasuna in La Liga on Saturday, December 2.

The 26-year-old continued his return to full fitness after a long injury layoff last season.

Sadiq suffered a cruciate ligament injury during a La Liga clash against Getafe in September 2022 and was taken off the field.

He was later ruled out for the remainder of the season after a flying start to life at Sociedad where he scored 3 goals in his opening 5 matches.

The Super Eagles striker has struggled for form and fitness on his return from injury as he went 11 straight games without finding the back of the net.

He finally broke his duck last week as Sociedad beat Sevilla 2-1 in La Liga.

It was Sadiq's first La Liga goal in over a year.

The ex-UD Almeria striker carried the same momentum to Sociedad's game against Osasuna as he scored his side's only goal at the Estadio El Sadar in Pamplona.

Speaking after the game, Sadiq noted that he is slowly getting into his groove.

“I feel good, I think I’m getting better step by step because last season I was out. The more I play, the more I get better,” he said.

He however expressed his disappointment at his team's failure to clinch all three points against Osasuna.

“It was not an easy game. We created a lot of opportunities, unfortunately. But we all know we deserved the three points,” Umar said.

“To play in this kind of stadium, against this kind of team is very hard. But I’m proud of the team because we fought hard and created a lot of chances, but it was not our day. Nonetheless, we keep going.”
