'I can’t say no' – Vincent Enyeama open to Super Eagles return

Enyeama is one of the greatest ever goalkeepers in the history of the national team. He is also one of the most successful players to grace the Super Eagles.

The 41-year-old shot-stopper had 101 appearances for Nigeria before his controversial retirement in 2015 after an altercation with former Super Eagles boss Sunday Oliseh.

Since then, Enyeama has been out of the Super Eagles fold. The only time he fully came out to show support for the team was during the last African Cup of Nations when they reached the final.

However, in a recent interview with Lagos Talks, Enyeama has revealed that he is willing to return to the team if he is called upon.

“Becoming a goalkeeper coach, first of all, I’m not yet certified. If they want me to be like Zidane, who was not yet certified, but Real Madrid had faith in him, it can happen,” Enyeama said.

“I don’t have a problem if they wake up tomorrow and say, Vincent, come and be part of the setup- I will gladly do it. I can never say no to my country, I have always said that.

“I can never say no to Nigeria. I will bring my experience over the years in Europe, and we will do it. But they have to call me first.”

Jose Peseiro brought in Nuno Carrapato, the goalkeeper coach at the AFCON and has left the position following the expiration of Peseiro’s deal.

Enyeama could fancy his chances in the Super Eagles if the Nigeria Football Federation appoints a new coach. However, there are still other top names in Nigeria, like Ike Shorunmu and Abideen Baruwa, who have served in that position in the past.
