The 2023 Women's World Cup has been entertaining so far. Title holders, the USA, have already been knocked out and underdogs have made this year's showpiece more intriguing.

Like any other international tournament, national pride is always at stake and other than that, players always have an eye on the prize money - which is three times more than what was offered in 2019.

Salaries in women's football have been a hot topic for years and continue to dominate headlines.

Female players have had disputes with their federations over equal pay compared to their male counterparts in the lead-up to this year's tournament.

The total prize pool for the Women's World Cup is only $110 million compared to the $440mil for the 2022 men's tournament.

Before the tournament in New Zealand and Australia, FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, said the prize money would be distributed to federations rather than directly to players and every player will get at least $30,000.

"So whatever payments we do will be through the associations, and then the associations will make the relevant payments to their own players," the world football chief said via ESPN.
Infantino also told the FIFA Congress in March that they were looking to offer equal prize money in the 2026 men's and 2027 women's World Cup tournaments.

However, he explained broadcasters offered less money for the women's tournament compared to the men's.

"Broadcasters and sponsors have to do more," Infantino added. "FIFA is receiving between 10 and 100 times inferior offers for the Women's World Cup."

The prize money in the last five editions are as follows 2023: $110mil, 2019: $30mil, 2015: $15mil, 2011: $7.5mil, and 2007: 5.8 million, per Optus Sport.

Every team exiting the group stage of the Women's World Cup will make $1,560,000.

What every WWC player makes

All 732 players will take home at least $30,000, while those on the winning team will get $270,000.
