After recording a decent result at home, all three of the NPFL clubs bowed out from the continental club competitions against the North African opponents under some bizarre circumstances.

Nigeria's hope of getting a representative at the Group stages of the CAF Champions League was dealt a huge blow following the exit of its two representatives Plateau United and River United last weekend.

Kwara United also crashed out in the CAF Confederations Cup following their defeat away in Morrocco.

Plateau United

After recording a 2-1 win against Esperance at home in the first leg, the NPFL side got eliminated in the second leg under some controversial circumstances.

The Plateau United put up a good fight against the North Africans but their efforts were not rewarded as the home side were rewarded a penalty with just 10 minutes left on the clock.

The incident which occurred outside the box was given as a spot-kick for the Tunisian-based club.

Esperance qualified for the group stages ahead of Plateau United via the away goal rule.

Plateau United will now compete in the CAF Confederation Cup following their exit from the Champions League.

Rivers United

After defeating Wydad 2-1 at home in the first leg, the pride of Rivers fell by the Moroccan's sword in the second leg.

Rivers United Ghanaian goalkeeper, Mutawakili Seidu was sent off for unsportsmanlike behaviour culminating in their defeat.

The Moroccan side capitalized on the numeral advantage by inflicting 10-men Rivers United with 6 unanswered goals.

The home side qualified for the group stages of the competition on a 7-2 aggregate score.

Kwara United

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Kwara United also crashed out of the competition following a 2-0 defeat to title holders RS Berkane of Morrocco.

The Ilorin-based side won the first leg by 3-1 in Lagos but failed to score in the return fixture.

The tie ended 3-3 on aggregate but the North Africans progressed to the next stage of the competition via the away goal rule.
