It has been revealed that Lionel Messi wanted to leave Barcelona in the early days of his career following the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a deal of around £59 million from Inter Milan in 2009.

The arrival of Zlatan which saw Samuel Eto'o go the other way made Messi uncomfortable that he sent a text message to manager Pep Guardiola who wasn't taking care of the situation.

Daily Star reports that Messi didn't have the courage to face Guardiola face to face and had to rely on text message.

He sent a message which reads: “I can see that I am no longer important to the team, so…”

This is said to be one of the reasons Zlatan left the club abruptly despite a five year deal.

According to Daily Star, Zlatan settled down well on arrival which meant bad news to Messi.

"The appearance of Ibrahimovic had been bad news for Leo.

"Messi knew it and started to make his feelings known to a coach who had won him over by giving him the green light to play for Argentina at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

“But this time there was danger; “Messi had failed to shine in a few games and Ibrahimovic was playing well.

“Suddenly, there were complications for the Argentine. Ibrahimovic had his own take on Guardiola’s relationship with Messi.
