Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Abiodun Baruwa has sent a word of caution to Daniel Amokachi following his appointment as an assistant to Finidi George.

Finidi George was officially unveiled as the new head coach at a ceremony held on Monday, May 13, at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) secretariat.

Alongside Finidi, his backroom staff, who will provide him with technical support, were also announced.

Finidi's former international teammate, Daniel Amokachi and Benjamin James, formerly of NPFL side Shooting Stars will serve as the first and second assistants respectively.

The other members of the coaching team include Olatunji Baruwa (goalkeepers’ trainer), Chima Onyeike (fitness trainer), and Mehmet Ozturk (analyst).

Baruwa, who earned five caps for the Super Eagles has urged Amokachi to respect and support George in his role as head coach.

Speaking to TVC News, Baruwa emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration within the coaching staff.

“I believe the NFF will not interfere with what’s going on between Amokachi and Finidi,” Baruwa said.

“All they need to do is sit down together and work out the plan moving forward.

What Amokachi needs to understand is that he needs to respect Finidi in whatever decision he makes and provide support. He should offer his own opinion while supporting him as the chief coach.”
