Hatayspor officials provide latest update on 'missing' Ghana winger Christian Atsu

Officials of Turkish Super Lig club Hatayspor, have disclosed that Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu is yet to be found, 48 hours after he was trapped under rubble following an earthquake in Turkey.

On Tuesday, reports indicated the 31-year-old has been pulled out of the wreckage alive, a day after he went missing.

However, latest information trickling in from the club states that the player is still trapped with sporting director Taner Savut.

Team doctor, Gürbey Kahveci, who visited the hospital the Ghana international was reportedly receiving treatment explained it was a case of mistaken identity.

"He was taken to Dortyol Hospital when we heard the news, we especially went and looked, but there was none. At the moment, we accept that Taner brother and Cristian Atsu were not found, unfortunately," he said as quoted by hurriyet.com.tr.

Volkan Demiral, the coach of Hatayspor also confirmed the winger and the sporting director are unaccounted for.

"There is no news about Atsu and Taner Savut yet. Wouldn't I share this if they were in the hospital? I will share as soon as the news comes.

We have experienced very difficult things," said Demiral. "We even got out of a gap where it would be difficult, thank God, they all survived. People are working day and night, I hope both of them will be saved.

The whole team took shelter in their families. I will share everything as information comes," he added. Atsu scored the winner in Hatayspor's last game before disaster struck in the early hours of Monday morning.
