Harry Maguire had an interesting answer when asked to name his toughest-ever opponent.

The 30-year-old has come up against some of the best in the business, mainly because he has played in the Premier League for years.

Since his days at Leicester City, the Maguire has faced modern legends of the game, including Eden Hazard, Harry Kane, Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero, but one player ranks above all these names as far as the centre-back is concerned.

In a recent Q and A session with JD Football, Maguire disclosed Al Hilal forward Neymar was the most formidable opponent he has faced.

“My toughest opponent is Neymar. I played against him for PSG and for Brazil at Wembley. He is a tough opponent; a tough one to mark,” he said.

Maguire first faced Neymar in the Champions League when Manchester United were up against Paris Saint Germain on December 2 2020.

Neymar ended up scoring twice as the Red Devils succumbed to a 3-1 defeat in a game which midfielder Fred was sent off.

Neymar is currently recovering from an injury that has all but ended his season.

As cited on CBS Sports, Neymar suffered a torn ACL while on international duty with Brazil and recently underwent surgery. He has now embarked on the road to recovery and is expected to be out of action for at least six months.

In the same interview, Maguire singled out Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player he has played alongside.

“I’ve been fortunate to play with a lot of great players but I’d have to go with Cristiano Ronaldo. Obviously he is a legend of the game and probably the best to ever do it,” Maguire added.
