Ghana players didn't fight enough against Uruguay — Aghahowa

Former Super Eagles striker Julius Aghahowa faulted Ghana’s game plan and mentality going into the all important match against Uruguay on Saturday.

The Black Stars faced the South Americans in final Group H match at the Al Janoub Stadium, Al Wakrah on Friday, needing just victory to go into the next round.

Ghana enjoyed a bright start into the game, but broke down after Captain Andre Ayew missed a 21st minute penalty — a repeat of what happened in 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

“Ghana got it wrong from the start, there was no spirit of urgency in their play,” Aghahowa told BrilaFM.

“The fire started from the second half when they were already 2-0 down. If they had started that way from the first half, things might have looked differently.

“They were punished, they fought for it but it was not enough to secure a win or even a draw,” He concluded.

Ghana and Uruguay cracked out of the Group, while Portugal and South Korea progressed to the knock out phase.
