Fulham are moving to complete the permanent signing of Samuel Chukwueze from AC Milan, with the Premier League club ready to trigger the agreed buyout clause for the Super Eagles winger despite earlier reported hesitation over the fee involved.
According to Italian journalist Daniele Longo, Fulham have already communicated their intention to sign Chukwueze on a permanent basis to Milan through the intermediary who arranged his initial loan move to Craven Cottage.
The 26-year-old is understood to have become a key figure in Fulham’s attacking plans, and the club view him as a long-term asset.
The deal will see Milan receive a fixed fee of €24 million, with the potential for a further €4 million in performance-related bonuses, bringing the total package to €28 million.
The sale would allow the Italian club to recoup a significant portion of their original investment while freeing up funds and wages ahead of a demanding campaign that includes European commitments.
Chukwueze’s loan spell in west London has been a considerable success after a difficult two years at Milan, where he struggled to nail down a regular starting role.
His performances at Fulham have won over the supporters and restored his reputation as one of the more exciting wingers in the English topflight. Highlights of his season included a two-goal display against Manchester City and a decisive contribution in a victory over Brighton.
The road to the permanent deal has not been entirely smooth. Earlier reports indicated Fulham were reluctant to meet the €24m buyout, with the club considering the figure too high relative to their valuation of the player.
Milan, however, appeared unwilling to negotiate significantly below the agreed clause. The two clubs appear to have since found common ground, with Fulham now set to formalise the transfer in the coming weeks.
