Former Nigerian goalkeeper Andrew Aikhoumogbe has urged the Nigerian Football Federation chiefs to extend the contract of Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro beyond a year.

The Portuguese gaffer has been in charge of the Super Eagles since May 2022 following the inability of the three-time African champions to qualify for the World Cup.

Peseiro replaces Austin Eguavoen with the mandate that the former Venezuela coach should change the fortune of the Super Eagles.

However, things have not been rosy for Peseiro and that has led to many Nigerian football fans urging the NFF chiefs to let him go.

According to the report on Complete Sports, Andrew Aikhoumogbe explained that this is not the best period for Peseiro to leave as Super Eagles coach.

“This is not the time to start contemplating on whether to extend Peseiro’s contract or not considering the fact that he has been doing well in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“We have a great crop of players that he has been working with and I am delighted with what he has done presently. The NFF should extend Peseiro’s contract so that the players and the technical crew can focus on the task at hand.”
