Forgotten Chelsea star becomes longest-serving player after Stamford Bridge exodus

Ethan Ampadu Ethan Ampadu

Ethan Ampadu is officially Chelsea's longest-serving player following a mass exodus marked at Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Blues have embarked on a summer overhaul that has seen them offload at least 25 players, with more set to depart in the coming days.

The move is expected to help the West London club return to winning ways following a disastrous 2022/23 campaign, where they finished 12th in the Premier League standings.

According to The Sun, the dismal campaign came to a disappointing end despite new owner Todd Boehly splashing out £600million across the last two transfer windows in a remarkable six months of manic dealings.

In a bid to balance their books, Chelsea have shipped out a string of players, with Baba Rahman, who was the longest-serving squad member, also affected.

Rahman had spent eight years with the Blues before he made a permanent switch to Greek side, PAOK.

Rahman's departure has now seen Ampadu earn a new crown, as he is officially the longest-serving Chelsea player.

The Wales international has spent seven years with the West London club, having joined them in 2017 from lower-tier side Exeter.

The youngster made his Chelsea debut aged 15, made 13 appearances, and would play 12 times for the club across two seasons under Antonio Conte and then Maurizio Sarri.

He was later sent out on loan to RB Leipzig, Sheffield United, and Venezia.

His latest loan stint was with Italian side Spezia he but has since returned to Chelsea.

According to The Mirror, Cesar Azpiliceuta was the longest-serving Chelsea player without any loan spells away before his exit this summer.

As it stands, that crown belongs to goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who joined from Athletic Club Bilbao in the summer of 2018.
