According to reports, Super Eagles head coach Finidi George is poised to include four players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in his squad list for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Republic of Benin, marking Finidi George's first significant challenge since assuming the role as the substantive head coach of the three-time African champions.
The former Ajax winger previously led the team as interim coach in their last two matches against Ghana and Mali in Morocco in late March.
In those fixtures, the Super Eagles secured a 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Black Stars of Ghana but suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Eagles of Mali in the subsequent encounter.
As preparations intensify, the ex-Enyimba boss is set to unveil a preliminary 35-man squad for next month's qualifying series. From this initial selection, the squad will be eventually trimmed down to 25 players.
Reports from OwnGoalNigeria suggest that four locally based players have made the initial cut.
