Finidi George is reportedly not being considered for the vacant Super Eagles job by the Nigeria Football Federation despite being one of the top candidates who applied for the post.

The former Real Betis midfielder was temporarily in charge of the team following the exit of Jose Peseiro in February, leading the Super Eagles in the international friendly games against Ghana and Mali in March.

According to Score Nigeria, the NFF were not impressed with Finidi’s short stint as manager of the team in both friendly games which were marred by clashes with some senior players of the squad.

The current Enyimba coach also does not possess the right qualifications to lead the Super Eagles as he would need to attain the UEFA Pro license as against the UEFA A license he currently uses.

The NFF Technical Committee will meet on Tuesday, April 16, to deliberate and name the next coach for the Super Eagles who will be tasked with qualifying the team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Pinnick backs Finidi for job

Meanwhile, former president of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick, has publicly endorsed Finidi as the ideal candidate for the vacant Super Eagles job, Soccernet reports.

The CAF and FIFA football administrator believes the Super Eagles need a smooth transition from the Peseiro era and believes Finidi is the right man to take over the reins at the national team level.

Over 100 coaches from around the world have applied for the vacant Nigeria job with the NFF set to name a new manager for the team on Tuesday, April 16.
