Finidi George rated third best player at 1994 World Cup

Former Super Eagles winger Finidi George has been rated the third-best player at the USA 1994 FIFA World Cup according to Sofascore and Opta.

The former Ajax winger featured prominently as Nigeria shocked the world during its maiden appearance at the FIFA World Cup.

The reigning African champions began their campaign with a win against Bulgaria as the late Rashidi Yekini grabbed the country's first-ever World Cup goal following a superb assist from Finidi.

Finidi remained crucial to the Super Eagles side as he scored in Nigeria's 2-0 victory against Greece to propel Clemens Westerhof’s side to the knockout stage.

Recent statistics revealed by renowned data companies, Sofascore and Opta, gave the former winger a 7.88 rating for his exploits at the global showpiece.

Only Romania's Gheorghe Hagi (8.00) and Swedish icon Kennet Andersson (7.89) got a higher rating than Finidi.

France's Florin Raducioiu (7.88) and Brazil's Dunga (7.84) completed the top 5.

Finidi George has been in the news in recent times after clashing with Super Eagles winger Moses Simon for former Real Madrid defender Pepe's shirt following Selecao's 4-0 mauling of the Super Eagles.

In a recent development, the Super Eagles legend revealed that his jersey request was for his son who is a huge fan of the Portuguese defender.
