FLASHBACK: 'I called all my friends' — What Osimhen said after his first visit to Stamford Bridge

Victor Osimhen Victor Osimhen

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen was a happy man on his first visit to Stamford Bridge.

The then 21-year-old attacker travelled to the home grounds of the Blues for the UEFA Champions League clash between Lille and Chelsea in December 2019.

Osimhen was an unused substitute in the game as Lille lost 2-0 to then tutored Frank Lampard's side.

Despite the defeat, the Super Eagles striker was not too bothered as his dream of visiting the home grounds of the Blues was finally fulfilled.

Speaking in an interview with Nigeria Info, Osimhen said:

“I was happy to be at Stamford Bridge, when I walked on to the pitch.

“I called all my friends via conference call that I was on the pitch because I was happy to be on the grass where my idol Drogba scored many goals. I cherished the moment.”

Before he visited Stamford Bridge in what was the reverse fixture, Osimhen had scored his first Champions League goal against Chelsea in France.

The Nigerian striker cancelled out Tammy Abraham's 33rd-minute strike before Chelsea restored their lead courtesy of Willian's match-winner.

Recounting the experience of scoring his first UEFA Champions League goal against the Blues, Osimhen disclosed that the goal gave him a sleepless night.

“I didn’t sleep after scoring my first Champions League goal because, after the game, we had a free day the following day.”

“Many of my friends are Chelsea fans, so they told me they don’t care if Chelsea win or not that I’m going to score my team’s only goal.”

Osimhen has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent times following his campaign with Napoli last season.

Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford could be potential destinations should the Nigerian consider a move to the Premiership.
