FLASHBACK: 'He was special father father' - Rashidi Yekini's daughter shares fond memories

Omoyemi Yekini, one of the daughters of Rashidi Yekini revealed some fond memories of her late father.

Omoyemi who was speaking in a 2017 interview on The Punch said the prolific striker was a "special father" adding "every day with him was memorable".

"I have so many fond memories. If I begin to recount some of them, I would spend the whole day. He was such a special father; every day with him was memorable. I still remember him taking me along for his football trainings; I loved spending time with him. Whenever I was on holiday, he ensured I never left his sight," she said when asked about her fond memories of him.

Yekini who is one of the country's most prolific goalscorers was a welder and mechanic before catching the eye of football scouts.

He played for ‘UNTL FC’ in Kaduna in 1981 before he joined Shooting Stars where he scored an impressive 45 goals in 53 games - a record at the time.

The soccer star is known for his goal-scoring prowess and is nicknamed the Goalsfather was born October 23, 1963, in Kaduna, Nigeria.

He died on May 4, 2012 in Ibadan, Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Yekini was celebrated by Google Doodle on Monday, October 23 as he marks his 60th birthday.
