FIFA pays touching tribute to Rashidi Yekini 11 years after his death

World football governing body, FIFA have paid touching tribute to former Super Eagles striker, Rashidi Yekini, 11 years after his shocking death in Ibadan, the Oyo State, Nigeria.

Yekini was one of the best strikers to have come out of Africa considering his brilliant goal-scoring sense for clubs and for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Since the death of the former Shooting Stars' strongman, his 37-goal record as the country's all-time top scorer has not yet been broken by any player.

According to the video FIFA World Cup posted on their Instagram page, they emphasised that Yekini would never be forgotten.

The post has attracted numerous comments.

Yekini died on May 4, 2012, in Ibadan, days after he was taken to an unknown traditional doctor by family members who claimed that he was acting 'insane'.

The footballer's lawyer, Jibril Olanrewaju, also claimed that he was not aware of where the former Super Eagles star was taken to by his family.

Yekini was part of the Super Eagles team that participated in the 1994 World Cup where he netted Nigeria's first-ever goal in the tournament.
