Former Atalanta and Super Eagles striker Stephen Ayodele Makinwa has thrown his weight behind Ademola Lookman to break his goal-scoring record at Atalanta.

Makinwa, 39, featured for the Italian side in 2005 scoring 6 goals in 17 appearances after joining the club from Genoa.

Lookman, who joined Gian Piero Gasperini's side just the past summer has so far scored 5 goals plus 3 assists in 12 league appearances and is just a single goal away from equalling Makinwa's feat.

However, the former Super Eagles striker is confident that the 25-year-old winger will surpass his record for the club.

“I hope he breaks it,” Makinwa told PUNCH Sports Extra.

“He did not show signs of initial struggles and has settled in well at the club.

“I’m confident he will set a new goalscoring record at the club, but we must not put pressure on him on that. He is very prolific, and he is becoming a fantastic buy for the club.”

Lookman is currently Atalanta's top scorer in the Serie A.

The former Leicester City man will hope to maintain his impressive goal-scoring form when they welcome league leaders Napoli to the Gewiss Stadium in the Italian Serie A on Saturday, November 5.
