Ex-Eagles defender Babalade for burial January

Ex-Super Eagles defender, Ajibade Babalade, will be laid to rest January 2021, his family and friend, Ike Shorunmu, have confirmed.

Babalade, 48, died September 4 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, after reportedly suffering cardiac arrest.

Former Eagles goalkeeper and Babalade’s Senegal ’92 teammate Shorunmu confirmed the date of the burial to The PUNCH.

“I spoke with the wife and they’ve already fixed the date for the burial and that will be next year, January 14 and 15 precisely,” Shorunmu, a close friend of Babalade, said.

A member of the family of the late defender, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, also confirmed the date to The PUNCH.

“His wife and three kids are not in the country and they want to be here for the burial of their father.

“We’ve have been told that they will be free in January and will be able to attend the burial, so that is why we fixed the funeral for January 14 and 15.”
