England: Nigeria's R16 opponent thrash China 6-1 in the FIFA WWC

The Lioness The Lioness

The Lioness beat China to top Group D in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The in-form English side defeated their opponent 6-1 and are now favorites to make it through to the quarterfinals.

China defeated the Lioness 2-1 during the last meeting in 2015.

Coach Sarina Wiegman had previously overseen successive 1-0 wins over Haiti and Denmark.

Nigeria finished second behind Australia in Group B after an impressive run that saw them pick two draws and one win to finish with five points.

The Super Falcons could have finished as group winners if they had won their last game against Ireland, but they could only manage a draw.

The Super Falcons will face the Lioness on August 7 at Lang Park, Brisbane at 5.30 pm.

Oshoala and the lads have their work cut out for them, as England have their golden generation of players. They won the last Euros, and they would want to build on that success in Australia.

Nonetheless, the Super Falcons would draw inspiration from their group stage performance and hope to shock England.
