A former Nigerian international, Emmanuel Ebiede, passed away at age 47.

The former Sharks of Port Harcourt star passed away in the Rivers State capital on Friday after he suffered from Hepatomegaly.

He had been admitted at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, where he eventually gave up the ghost, Daily Post reports.

Ebiede was part of the Flying Eagles squad at the African Youth Championship on home soil in 1995.

He won only two caps for the senior Nigeria national team, making his debut under Serbian Bora Milutinovic in the 1-0 win over Iran in a friendly match played before the 1998 World Cup. He made three appearances for Nigeria in 1998.

Ebiede first moved to Europe in 1995 when he joined the Belgian club Eendracht Aalst, and after two years, he moved to Dutch outfit SC Heerenveen.

He also featured for several clubs in the Middle East, including UAE outfits Al Jazira, Al Ain, Al Dhafra and Al-Wasl.

He last played for Israeli outfit Hapoel Bnei Lod before his retirement.
