EPL: Chelsea attempted a 'failed' last-minute swoop for Awoniyi

Chelsea attempted a last-minute swoop for Nigerian and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi, according to reports.

The Athletic reports that the Blues wanted to sign Awoniyi as an alternative option to Nicholas Jackson.

Chelsea are in dire need of a striker after their new summer Christopher Nkunku suffered an injury and is set to miss some games in the early stages of the season.

Awoniyi inspired the Tricky Trees to a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend after he assisted the only goal of the game.

According to reports, Chelsea contacted Forest 48 hours before the end of the transfer window to reach an agreement, but Forest rejected the deal.

The Blues have managed just a win and a draw this season.
