Former Pep Guardiola's assistant Domenec Torrent who is reportedly one of the favourites candidates for the Super Eagles job has been linked to Barcelona next season.

The Spanish coach who has worked with the Manchester City boss for over 11 years at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City is reportedly one the frontrunners to become Nigeria's next coach after José Peseiro.

Portuguese gaffer left the role in February after guiding the Super Eagles to the final of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire.

According to reports, members of the NFF technical committee believe Torrent's wealth of experience, having worked closely with Guardiola for over a decade gives him the edge over the other candidates.

Meanwhile, a recent report from Diario AS indicates that the 61-year-old could return to Barcelona as an assistant to Xavi Hernández, following the Barça manager's decision to reverse his initial plan to leave the Catalan side at the end of the season.

“The name of Domènec Torrent, a former assistant to Pep Guardiola at Camp Nou, is one of several that have linked with a role at the club next season, the report said.

“His arrival could see Óscar Hernández, Xavi’s brother, and Sergio Alegre being removed from their current positions as assistant coaches.”

The announcement of a new head coach for the Super Eagles could be imminent as the NFF looks to appoint a new manager to lead the team in the World Cup qualifying series in June.
