Former assistant manager to Pep Guardiola Domence Torrent has reportedly emerged as the favourite to land the vacant Super Eagles coaching job.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is yet to appoint a new head coach for the Super Eagles after Portuguese gaffer José Peseiro left the role despite guiding the team to the grand finale of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Cote D'Ivoire.

According to widespread reports, the NFF has received over 115 applications from both local and foreign coaches who have expressed interest in handling the Super Eagles.

After a thorough screening process by the NFF, Nigeria sports outlet, OwnGoal reports that the search has been narrowed down to two foreign coaches, Antonio Conceicao and Domence Torrent.

However, the report further indicates that the former assistant to Pep Guardiola is the favourite among to two coaches to succeed José Peseiro.

The members of the NFF technical committee believe his experience of working closely with Pep Guardiola for over 11 years gives him an advantage over the other candidates.

Torrent worked under the current Manchester City boss during his days at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

He has also coached clubs like Girona and New York City. His last coaching job was with Turkish giants Galatasaray in 2022 where he was relieved of his duties after just five months.
