Confederations Cup: Rivers hosts Motema Pembe in search of early qualification

Nigeria's representatives at this year's CAF Confederations Cup, Rivers United will host DR Congo's Motema Pembe today (Thursday, March 9) as they look to secure early qualification to the next round of the competition.

The game which was initially scheduled to take place on Wednesday will hold at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Oyo, Akwa Ibom.

According to reports, Rivers United are waiting for a decision from CAF after the DR Congo side failed to show up for the game on Wednesday.

In a tweeted statement, the NPFL champions confirmed that the game will take place at 3 pm on Thursday.

“The CAF TotalEnergies Confederations Cup group B matchday 4 tie between Rivers United and DC Motema Pembe will now be played on Thursday (today) 9 March at 3pm (15:00 HRS),” the club tweeted.

The Pride of Rivers currently sit in second place in Group B with a point behind ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast.

Stanley Eguma's 10-men team won the first leg 1-0 away at DR Congo.
