Choose England, not Nigeria - Roy Hodgson tells Eze

Veteran England manager Roy Hodgson has urged Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze to commit his international future to the Three Lions ahead of the Super Eagles.

The Crystal Palace boss was full of praise for Eze after the former QPR star registered three goals in his last two games for the Eagles to steer them clear of the relegation zone.

Hodgson, 75, charged the Nigeria-eligible forward to maintain his brilliant performance with the hope of earning a call-up to the Three Lions soon.

“The people watching for Gareth Southgate at the moment will be making their assessments and they don’t need help from me on that subject,” said Hodgson.

“If you are talking about a player’s ambition, young as he is, a massive possibility to keep improving and doing well with every Premier League game he plays, if I was him, I would be saying I’m so good that I’m going to make that my ambition.

“The only way he will do that is by producing more of these performances and hoping that Gareth and (his assistant) Steve Holland watch him and come to the same conclusion that this is a guy who can help us out.”

Eze, 24, earned a call-up from England Coach Gareth Southgate as part of a 33-provisional man squad ahead of the 2020 Euros but was unable to honour the invitation due to injury.

Eze was born in London to Nigerian parents, which makes him eligible to represent the Super Eagles at the international level.
