Chelsea star Cole Palmer has admitted it felt very strange for him to play against Manchester City when the two teams faced off at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.

Palmer came through the ranks at City before he made his senior debut for the reigning English champions in 2020.

However, with no clear path for him to play more regularly for the first team under Pep Guardiola, the Englishman resolved to swap City for Chelsea in the summer.

According to Sky Sports, the Blues paid an initial £40m with £2.5m in add-ons to take their spending under the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership to £1.02bn at the time.

The youngster has gone on to establish himself as an integral squad member for Mauricio Pochettino.

Palmer speaks after denying Man City victory

The Englishman was a big talking point on Sunday after he scored a stoppage-time penalty to deny City victory at Stamford Bridge.

With the two teams tied 3-3, Rodri appeared to have won it for the visitors with just five minutes left on the clock.

However, the west Londoners were awarded a penalty deep in the second half, with Palmer stepping up to score to force the tie into a 4-4 dramatic draw.

Speaking after the match, the attacking midfielder said:

"First time I’ve played against City since I left, but I’ve got the utmost respect for the club that I spent 15 years at. It was nice to see some friends, unlucky not to get the win but it was a great game."
"It was a great game, we went behind a few times and bounced back," he added via Metro UK.
