Chelsea name price for Cucurella as La Liga giant set to open talks

Chelsea are prepared to sell Marc Cucurella this summer providing their valuation is met, according to talkSPORT.

The 27-year-old left-back has three years left on his contract, having penned fresh terms last year, and is understood to be open to a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

Atletico Madrid view Cucurella as a leading target and are set to open talks with Chelsea in the coming weeks.

Adding a new left-back is a top priority despite only signing Matteo Ruggeri last year, and talks on the player’s side are already underway.

Atleti could move quickly in the hope of striking a deal with Chelsea before other clubs have decided whether to enter the race.

Barcelona are another potential suitor, but nothing is advancing yet. Barcelona would likely need a defender to leave first.

Real Madrid have also been linked, but sources downplay a move as it stands.

Real’s priority in defence is to sign a centre-back, and negotiations have resumed with Ibrahima Konate now he is a free agent, despite Real ruling themselves out last year. An agreement could be formalised following the presidential elections.

Manchester City tried to sign Cucurella when at Brighton, prior to his move to Chelsea in August 2022 and links will be natural now that former Blues boss Enzo Maresca is set to replace Pep Guardiola. Cucurella retains some admirers within the club.

Yet City view Nico O’Reilly as their starting left back, and are currently prioritising a right-back. Newcastle’s Tino Livramento is one name appreciated.

The club’s position would only change if Josko Gvardiol is sold. Bayern are currently considering whether to make a move for the Croatian defender this summer.

Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton for an initial £55m, with the fee rising to £62m with add-ons. He has gone on to make 162 appearances, scoring nine goals and despite a difficult start, has become a fan favourite and one of Chelsea’s most consistent performers.
