The man-of-the-moment, Victor Osimhen continues to draw praise from Nigerians and the football world following his astounding feat with Napoli this season.
The 24-year-old continues to break record after record in what has been the best season in his senior career.
Osimhen guided Napoli to their first Scudetto title in 33 years with five matches to spare following his title-winning strike against Udinese last Thursday.
He also surpassed Samuel Eto's record as the African Player with the most Serie A goals in a season.
On Sunday, May 7, he finally broke George Weah's record to become the African Player with the most goals after he scored from the spot in Napoli's 1-0 win against Fiorentina.
The Super Eagles striker's remarkable feat has earned the praise of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and one of his close rivals in the February 25 polls, Peter Obi.
The President-elect in a tweet said:
“I think we can all agree that there was another coronation in Italy where our son, Victor Osimhen, claimed the crown as the new King of Serie A! The real deal, or idán gangan as younger folks may describe him; Victor has continued the fine tradition of Nigeria’s footballing excellence on the global stage. We are all proud of him and wish him well in what is already a remarkable career.”
The former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi in his message to celebrate the in-form striker also wrote:
“I heartily congratulate the Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, whose 22nd goal of the season earned Napoli a 1-1 draw at Udinese and was enough to win the great Italian Football Club their first Serie A league title since 1990.”
“Today, Victor Osimhen's penalty against Fiorentina further pushed him ahead of George Weah as the Africa's highest goal scorer in Seria A history.
Osimhen's feat is more remarkable when it is recalled that Napoli last won the title during the days of the late legendary footballer Diego Maradona.”
“Osimhen's inspiring story of rising from the slums of Ojota Lagos to become one of the best footballers in the world is an eloquent testimony to what Nigerian youths can achieve if given the right atmosphere to pursue their dreams.”
“It is yet another proof that a new Nigeria is POssible if we harness the abundant talents of our teeming youths. -PO”
Osimhen is the leading top scorer in the Italian topflight with 23 goals in 28 matches.
His remarkable form has drawn a lot of interest from several clubs in Europe with Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG, and Real Madrid all reportedly interested in his services.
