Calvin Bassey shines in top of the table clash against PSV

Calvin Bassey was in action for Ajax Amsterdam in their top-of-the-table clash against PSV Eindhoven on Sunday.

Bassey was in action for the entire minute as Ajax went down 2-1 to their bitter rivals.

Despite the defeat, Bassey was impressive and was one of the best players for Alfred Schreuder’s side on the night.

The Nigeria international Bassey was back to his centre-back position and made two (2) interceptions, one (1) clearance, and one (1) blocked shot.

In addition, he recorded a 97.1% passing accuracy, completing five (5) out of his six (6) long balls attempted and one (1) of two (2) crosses.

It was a better performance from the 22-year-old who was sent off when both sides met in the season’s curtain raiser back in August.

PSV had their noses in front after Two-three minutes when Cody Gakpo fed former Barcelona striker Luuk de Jong to score from close range.

Gutierrez then doubled his side’s lead five minutes into the second half.

The Champions pulled one back in the 83rd minute through Lucca Lorenzo, but PSV held on for the three points.

Ajax will take on Vitesse at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Wednesday, November 9.
