COVID-19: UEFA president speaks on Liverpool winning EPL title

Aleksander Ceferin Aleksander Ceferin

UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin has waded into the situation with Liverpool who are being clamoured to be named winners of the 2019/2020 English Premier League title.

The EPL season was postponed by the football authorities in England due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

The league which is expected to resume on April 30th sees Liverpool at the top of the table with 25 points clear off second-placed Manchester City.

Speaking on the league which now seems unlikely to resume due to coronavirus fats spreading in the UK, Ceferin stated that he sees no way for Liverpool not to be named title winners.

“I see no way for Liverpool to stay untitled. If the championship resumes, they will almost certainly win it – theoretically, it has not yet reached the guaranteed level, but it is practically close.

“However, if it could not be played, it would also be necessary to announce the results in some way and find some key on how the champions should be determined. And, of course, again I do not see a scenario in which that would not be Liverpool,” Ceferin said.
