The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has hailed Victor Osimhen's heroics at the 2015 edition of the U-17 Nations Cup ahead of the fast-approaching 2023 edition.

Osimhen, then 16, scored 4 goals to finish the competition as the top scorer.

He scored the first goal of the competition as the Golden Eaglets beat hosts Niger 2-0 in the opening game at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché in Niamey.

Kelechi Nwakali grabbed the other goal as Nigeria ran 2-0 victors.

After failing to find the back of the net in Nigeria's second game against Guinea which ended in a 1-1 draw, Osimhen bounced back with a brace against Zambia in Nigeria's final group game as the Golden Eaglets recorded a comfortable 3-1 win to finish as Group A winners with 7 points.

After securing a semi-final berth, the Eaglets lost 1-0 to South Africa and had to settle for the third-place playoff against Guinea.

Osimhen put Nigeria ahead in the third-place battle for the bronze medal, but Guinea turned the game on its head as it ended 3-1 in favour of the West Africans.

Osimhen would later guide the Golden Eaglets to glory in the U-17 FIFA World Cup in Chile, scoring 10 goals in the tournament to win another Golden Boot award.
